Beihang University is committed to building strong and sustainable partnerships with institutions around the world. We have developed the UPS Global Engagement Plan, which aims to encourage cooperation globally at three levels: university to university, professor to professor and student to student.                

U: University to University                  

This includes building university-wide partnerships and further establishing joint research and education bodies. Based on existing global partnerships, we are also working to develop strategic alliances, which are mutually beneficial, with like-minded leading universities.  

Examples include:            

• Groupe des Ecoles Centrales: Sino-French Engineer School (Ecole Centrale de Pekin)

• Technische Universität München (TUM): Privileged Partnership with Beihang

• Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM): Joint Education and Research Center

Apart from university-to-university connections, we highly encourage partnership development by schools. We combine top-down and bottom-up approaches and offer special grants to incubate school-level partnerships.

P: Professor to Professor  

This includes faculty and staff exchange, joint research, joint supervision of students, joint workshops and conferences, etc. Our faculty can invite colleagues from overseas institutions to visit Beihang for 2 weeks to 3 months, when the international visiting professors may conduct joint research, lecturing, or joint supervision at Beihang. We also encourage Beihang faculty to organize bilateral cooperative workshops, which can be held either on our campus or overseas and aim to explore collaboration in academic disciplines of mutual interest.  

Examples include:  

• Prof. XU Xiangyang (School of Transportation Science and Engineering, Beihang) and Prof. Peter Tenberge (TU Chemnitz) jointly developed the world’s 1st front wheel drive 8-Speed automatic transmission. The innovation brings superior efficiency and performance and is currently applied in production of 100,000 cars/year.

• With joint efforts of 20 plus researchers from Russia, US, Canada & Japan over ten years, Prof. LIU Hong (School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, Beihang) developed Lunar Palace 1 - Bio-regenerative Life Support System. The system is the first long-term multi-crew sealed cabin BLSS system in China and the third of its kind 3rd in the world.

S: Student to Student      

This includes exchange (tuition-free), double degree, summer programs, and internships, etc. Through the links with high quality institutions across the world, our aim is to create a “Beihang Global Campus” featured by dynamic student mobility in both directions and beneficial exchange among cultures and disciplines.

• Université Paris-Sud: Cotutelle PhD program
