On September 10, the opening ceremony for 2022 new students was held at both Xueyuan Road Campus and Shahe Campus simultaneously, marking the new journey of these students at Beihang University.

University leaders, including Beihang Council Chair Zhao Changlu and President Wang Yunpeng welcomed the new students and inaugurate the 2022-23 academic year.

The ceremony was preluded with a short video titled The Power of Moving Forward, and then officially commenced in the solemn national anthem.

At the ceremony, Zhao Changlu presented the university badges to student representatives to welcome every student to the Beihang community.

President Wang Yunpeng extended his warm welcome to more than 10,000 new students from all over the country. He noted that 2022 is an extraordinary year as we are about to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Beihang University. Over the past 70 years, generations of Beihang faculty and students have passed on the Beihang spirit to train top-notch talents and build a world-class university rooted in China.

President Wang Yunpeng encouraged all the students to remain true to their dreams and dedicate themselves to serving the country. Students should stay positive and resilient and thrive from difficulties and setbacks. He noted in his speech that striving for excellence and taking actions are of vital importance to youth, so he hoped that all Beihang students would seize the day and live it to the fullest.

Lyu Weifeng announced the prize winners of the 2022 Scholarship for New Graduate Students. The honorary certificates were presented to the winners on stage. Subsequently, student and faculty representatives each delivered their speeches.

Parasati Kinnes, a 2022 freshman from the Shijia College delievered a speech as an undergraduate representative. The story between him and Beihang began with the postgraduates voluntary teaching corps. He shared his 8-year engagement with Beihang University and expressed his determination to serve the West region and to devote himself to China’s aviation development.

As a representative of the new postgraduates, Zhao Junbo from  the Institute of Artificial Intelligence conveyed his resolution to devote himself to serving the nation by fulfilling his mission.

Zhang Yue, a PhD student from the School of Reliability and Systems Engineering, shared her story at Beihang, inspiring all students to be innovative, righteous and work together for a brighter future for China.

Professor Wang Jinliang from the School of Physics spoke as a representative of teachers. He encouraged students to be determined, innovative and active in pursuing knowledge and truth, and could apply their wisdom, passion and courage to realize the value of life.

Cen Zheng, the General Director of Long March 3A and Heavy Lift Launch Vehicle, School of Energy and Power Engineering class of 1986, addressed the audience as an alumni representative. He recalled the unforgettable memories of friendship, knowledge and college life at Beihang. He also shared insights with the students in regards to his 30-year experience in aerospace field, inspiring students to be innovative, responsible and willing to pass on the Chinese aerospace spirit.

The opening ceremony ended with all the faculty members and students chorusing the university anthem “Looking up to the Starry Sky”.
